Gas Filter Service Life (NIOSH STP)

Respiratory Protection Equipment Tests

Gas Filter Service Life (NIOSH STP)

There are three main types of respiratory protection: respiratory protection with filtration and breathing resistance, respiratory protection with turbo filter and no breathing resistance, and air-fed respiratory protection. The filter type respiratory protection filter passes the inhaled air through a filter. Air supplied respiratory protection provides air from non-contaminated areas. If there is a need for protection from heavy pollution, if the composition of the pollution is unknown, or if there is a risk of oxygen deficiency, this type of respiratory protection equipment is needed.

Gas Filter Service Life (NIOSH STP)

Since working with respiratory protection is always troublesome, working periods with respiratory protection should be limited to appropriate breaks. It is necessary to work a maximum of six hours a day using respiratory protection with air supply or turbo units, including appropriate intervals. During risky work, this period should be reduced to a maximum of four hours, including appropriate breaks.

Gas filter full or half masks have various filter types according to their ability to absorb gases, vapors and dust. For example, A-type filter provides protection against vapors from organic solvents with a boiling point of at least 65 degrees. AX type filter provides protection against vapors from organic solvents with a boiling point below 65 degrees. These filters should be discarded the day they are used. The B type filter provides protection against gases such as chlorine and prussic acid, the E type filter against sulfur dioxide and similar gases, the K type filter provides protection against ammonia and similar gases. Hg-P3 type filter provides protection against mercury and vapors caused by particles, NO-P3 type filter against nitrogenous gases and particles, and SX type filter provides protection against special substances. Therefore, the service lives of these filters are also different from each other.

NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety) has published standards for gas filter test methods and service life.

Gas filter service life (NIOSH STP) testing services are also provided by our organization within the framework of respiratory protection equipment testing services.
