In respiratory physiology, breathing resistance is the resistance of the respiratory tract to air flow during breathing and exhalation. This resistance value is measured in a laboratory environment using a special device.
Respirators are used when it is not expensive or practical to remove airborne contamination from the environment. The performance of respirators at levels from resting position to maximum effort is evaluated from many physiological and psychological aspects. Many of these limitations are being explored how much performance degradation results in different respirator specification levels. While evaluating user performances, the entire system, including breathing apparatus and user interactions, is taken into account.
In short, respirator masks are used when pollutants are present in the air and they cannot be controlled economically by engineering tools or administrative controls. Respirators are produced in many forms: filter face masks, quarter, half and full face masks, air purifying respirators, air-fed respirators, blower-powered air purification masks and self-contained breathing apparatus. They are used where airborne contamination is a potential threat (such as homes, industry, agriculture, mines and emergency services). Threats can take the form of perticules of various sizes, including gases, vapors, dusts, and aerosols.
The protective systems of respirators are largely physical and sometimes chemical, and respirators carry a number of physiological and psychological burdens.
Respirators are quite simple in construction, but they are effective in: breathing, thermal balance, vision, communication, feelings of well-being, personal procedures such as eating and sneezing, and other equipment.
Respiratory rate is effective on airway resistance and compliance measurements.
