Basic Requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 Respiratory Protection Standard

Identify and assess respiratory hazards in the workplace, including a reasonable estimate of worker exposures and identification of the chemical state and physical form of the pollutant.

Where exposure cannot be identified or reasonably estimated, the atmosphere will be considered an immediate hazard to life or health (IDLH).

A fit test is required before first use, when using a different respirator, and at least annually thereafter. An additional fit test is required when the employee reports changes in the employee's physical condition (for example, facial scarring, dental changes, cosmetic surgery, or an obvious change in the body) that may affect respirator fit, or when the employer or PLHCP makes visual observations.
