SASO Product Conformity Certificate is a two-stage certification process applied to protect companies from the risk of fraud regarding products intended to be exported to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to ensure that products are free from defects affecting the health and safety of consumers.

SASO is the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization. This organization is responsible for all activities related to standards, measurements and quality in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This organization takes the necessary measures for the quality control of raw materials and products and is authorized to verify the quality and determine the necessary conformity procedures of the products based on legal regulations. The main purpose of this organization is to increase the product and service standards and quality in the country, to protect the consumer and to increase the competitiveness of the country's economy.

To protect companies from the risk of fraud and to ensure that products are free from defects that could adversely affect the health and safety of consumers, a two-stage certification process implemented by SASO includes:

  • Product Conformity Certificate
  • Shipment Conformity Certificate

The Certificate of Product Conformity to be obtained for exports to Saudi Arabia is required to prove that the products are registered within the existing system and comply with the applicable technical regulations. The validity period of this document is 1 year.

Products covered by technical regulations are generally classified as high risk or medium risk. Depending on the risk profile of the product, additional checks are required. For example,

  • Product testing and inspection for medium risk products (type 1A)
  • Product testing, factory inspection and inspection for high-risk products (type 3)
  • Product testing, factory inspection and factory surveillance inspection for high risk products (type 5)
