This standard specifies requirements for a two-component coal tar epoxy paint intended to protect iron and steel from corrosion when used in damp underground or submerged structures.

It is primarily designed for paints applied by spraying (conventional air or airless), especially suitable for high build coatings. Paint can also be applied with a roller or brush for small areas. The paint specified in this standard complies with the provisions of Paint Type 2312 given in AS 12.

Paint when used with a suitable primer, systems LP 2312-A and LP 3-B given in AS 3. It can be used as a single coat in the SP-3A.2 system. Paint is not usually produced in colors other than black or brown. Using different colors in the two-coat system helps differentiate between coats and aids application.
