EN 12317-1 Flexible Sheets for Waterproofing - Test for Determination of Slip Resistance of Joints

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 12317-1 test. This European standard specifies a test method for the determination of the shear resistance of a joint between two adjacent sheets of the same bitumen-based roofing sheets.

EN 12317-1 Flexible Sheets for Waterproofing - Test for Determination of Slip Resistance of Joints

This European standard is to be used for testing joints in single-layer bituminous roof coverings that are mechanically fixed or ballasted. It is not designed to test fully bonded or multi-layered roofs.

EN 12317-1 is a European standard that specifies the test method for determining the slip resistance of joints in bituminous sheets used for roof waterproofing. The standard is part of the EN 12317 series, which covers flexible sheets for waterproofing.

The test method described in EN 12317-1 involves testing the slip resistance of the lap joint between two bituminous sheets.

Below is a summary of the test method:

Sample preparation: A representative sample of the bitumen sheets is taken and stored in a horizontal position for at least 24 hours prior to testing. The samples are then prepared by cutting them to the required dimensions and overlapping them to form a lap joint.

Mounting the Sample: The lap joint is mounted on a template that allows the specimen to be subjected to a shear load.

Application of the Load: A constant shear load is applied to the lap joint until failure occurs. The load is applied at a certain temperature and for a certain period of time, according to the relevant product standard or technical specification.

Recording Results: The maximum shear load and the type of failure (adhesive or cohesive) are recorded.

Evaluation of Shear Resistance: The maximum shear load is compared with the requirements specified in the relevant product standard or technical specification. The connection test passes if the maximum breaking load meets or exceeds the specified requirements.

It is important to note that the EN 12317-1 standard also specifies other test methods for sampling, conditioning and packaging of bituminous sheets, as well as evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of the sheets.
