ISO 20567-2 specifies a method for evaluating the resistance of automobile coatings and other coatings to the impact of a wedge-shaped body projected onto the tested surface to simulate the impact of stones.
The stone impact resistance of the tested pavement is checked by projecting a defined impact body onto it. The impact body used in the test has a wedge-shaped cutting edge to achieve a damage pattern equivalent to that produced in the multi-impact test. The wedge-shaped impact body is pushed into the tested coating by transmitting an energy pulse from a steel ball accelerated using compressed air.
The test method described in ISO 20567-2 involves using a guided impact body to strike the surface of the pavement at a specified angle and velocity. The impact body used in this test is designed to simulate the impact of a single stone or other hard object. The coating is applied to a flat panel which is then mounted on a test apparatus. The impact body is guided by a fixture that causes it to strike the clad panel at the specified angle and speed.
After the impact, the panel is inspected for any damage to the cladding and the extent and location of any damage is recorded. The results of the test are reported as the size of the damaged area, measured in millimeters.
