This British standard specifies a method for measuring the thickness, pressure and recovery properties of textile floor coverings of all types except pile carpets of varying thickness or pile density, unless these areas can be measured separately.
Except for pile carpets with different thicknesses or pile densities, it can be applied to any type of coating as long as these areas cannot be measured separately.
The thickness of a textile floor covering sample is measured as the distance between the reference plate on which the textile floor covering rests and a parallel circular presser foot that applies a known pressure to an area between 300 mm² and 1000 mm² within a larger textile area.
By applying a series of increasing and then decreasing loads to the sample, thickness and load compression and load recovery curves at various pressures are determined.
