This standard describes an extended test method for determining the resistance of passive fire protection materials and systems or critical process control equipment to jet fires.
It gives an indication of how PFP materials or equipment behave in a severe jet fire and provides performance data under specified conditions. It does not include an assessment of other properties of the passive fire protection material such as weathering, aging, impact resistance, impact or explosion resistance, or smoke generation.
This standard is intended to supplement part one of ISO 22899 where required fire conditions or limitations on test specimen size/type prevent part one from being applied.
Key items required for the test are the jet release nozzle, the flame recirculation chamber and a shield chamber. All of these items are required for the internal configurations of the test, and the test specimen forms all or part of the flame recirculation chamber. In the external configurations of the test, the flame recirculation chamber is only used to assist in the generation of the fireball and the use of the shielding chamber is not required.
