ISO 15178 Soil Quality - Standard Test for Determination of Total Sulfur by Dry Burning

It is important to note that high-temperature combustion methods may not determine total sulfur, but only combustible sulfur. This method is for use with commercially available sulfur analyzers equipped to automatically perform previous processes. These instruments should be calibrated using chemical compounds with known sulfur content or standard reference materials based on the sulfur range in each sample analyzed.

During transport, care should be taken to minimize the possibility of changing the moisture content of the SRM through drying or absorption of atmospheric moisture. All standard reference materials should be used in accordance with the information given in the certificate of analysis.

Analyze sufficient samples or calibration substances with sulfur content to cover the expected range of values ​​in unknown samples. Commonly accepted quality control procedures can be used to determine the required number of calibrated samples and the precision and frequency of calibration. A minimum of four calibration points is highly recommended.
