AATCC 183 Test Method for Transmission or Inhibition of Erythema-Weighted Ultraviolet Radiation through Fabrics

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of the AATCC 183 standard. This standard test method is used to determine the ultraviolet radiation transmitted or blocked by textile fabrics intended to be used for UV protection.

AATCC 183 Test Method for Transmission or Inhibition of Erythema-Weighted Ultraviolet Radiation through Fabrics

This method provides procedures for measuring this fabric property with samples in the dry or wet condition.

Transmission of ultraviolet radiation (UV-R) from a sample is measured on a spectrophotometer or spectroradiometer at known wavelength ranges.

The ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) is calculated as the ratio of the erythema-weighted ultraviolet radiation (UV-R) radiation in the detector without a sample to the erythema-weighted UV-R radiation in the detector when a sample is present.

The erythema-weighted UV-R radiation in the detector without the sample is equal to the relative spectral efficiency of the erythemal action spectrum relative to the wavelength ranges of the measured spectral radiation times the sum of the UV-R weight function of the object.
