Standard Method for Fire Testing of CAN/ULC-S104 Door Groups

Published by the Standards Council of Canada, ULC standards address products that have an impact on fire, life safety, crime prevention, energy efficiency, environmental safety, security of assets and facilities, live work and workplace safety, and more.

Standard Method for Fire Testing of CAN/ULC-S104 Door Groups

The CAN/ULC-S104 standard describes a test method applicable to door assemblies (assemblies consisting of doors, frame products, hardware, glassware and other parts, accessories or components) of various materials and construction types for use in wall openings to delay the passage of fire.

This test method also applies to the evaluation of individual components that are intended to be part of a fire test rig, such as doors, frame products, hardware, glazing, light kits, shutters and other parts or accessories.

Tests performed in accordance with this test method record performance during test exposure, but such tests should not be interpreted as determining fitness for use after exposure to fire.

The tests conducted in accordance with this test method are intended to develop data that will enable regulatory agencies to determine the suitability of door assemblies for use where fire protection is required for a certain period of time.

A fire door with building fire separation properties often plays an important role in reducing fire loss at the entrance to the fire wall or stairwell. In Canada, fire doors and windows must be manufactured to this standard. This standard is a fire resistance test standard for doors and fittings.

The test methods described involve observing the stability and integrity of the door while exposing one face of the door to the heat conditions expected in a fire. The door set is tested from both sides to ensure performance when exposed to fire conditions on both sides.

Fire rated door assemblies play an important role in saving lives and minimizing property damage by providing safe exit and compartmentalizing smoke, flames and, where necessary, hazardous radiant heat.

Our organization also provides fire test services for door groups within the scope of CAN/ULC-S104 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
