EN 1176-5 Playground Equipment and Surface Finishing - Part 5: Additional Specific Safety Requirements and Test Methods for Carousels

Where the main playback function does not return, the relevant requirements of this part of EN 1176 can be used as appropriate. This standard does not apply to motorized carousels, fairground carousels or climbing drums.

Cycles not clearly defined by any of the predefined types in this section should be evaluated based on a risk assessment and using the requirements applicable to each type together with general requirements. The risk assessment should be based on comparison with the type of carousel most similar to the new design.

Carousels that use a mechanical advantage to increase speed, e.g. pedal or handwheel must be designed so that the maximum speed in the environment is not more than 5 m/s under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use.

The carrier components, on which the user stations are directly connected and on which drive elements are mounted, must be mounted on the rotating shaft.

Tracked carousels, except where the drive wheels are positively driven, shall be designed so that the top edges of the rails are flush with the installation surfaces. If the rails are wavy, the mounting surfaces must be properly shaped.
