EN 131-1 Stairs - Part 1: Terms - Types - Standard Test for Functional Dimensions

It does not apply to ladders designed for specific professional use, such as fire escape ladders, loft ladders and step ladders.

The treads and rungs of a ladder must be evenly spaced with a tolerance of ±2 mm. In addition to the requirements for a complete ladder, sections that can be dismantled without the use of tools, one-piece reclining ladders or ladders with reclining steps shall comply section by section.

For solid stairs, the method of obtaining the minimum permanently available floor width is at the discretion of the manufacturer, but this must be permanently incorporated into the design and not provided by removable components or accessories. A fixture providing the required base width is permitted to be provided by the end user for tool mounting.
