EN 13361 Geosynthetic Barriers - Features to be Used in Reservoir and Dam Construction

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 13361 testing. This standard specifies the properties of geosynthetic barriers, including polymeric geosynthetic barriers, clay geosynthetic barriers, and bituminous geosynthetic barriers when used as liquid barriers and a separating layer for water in the construction of reservoirs and dams, and appropriate test methods to determine these properties.

EN 13361 Geosynthetic Barriers - Features to be Used in Reservoir and Dam Construction

This standard provides for the evaluation and verification of product constancy of performance (AVCP) against this European Standard, including factory production control procedures. This standard defines features to be considered in relation to the presentation of performance.

The main function of geosynthetic barriers used in the construction of drinking, fresh or salt water reservoirs and dams is to prevent or reduce the flow of liquid through the structure.

Installing a geosynthetic barrier downstream of a dam is not normally recommended. Special consideration should be given to any geosynthetic barrier placed on the downstream face of a dam. The practices described in this standard do not include such situations.

Bursting strength and elongation data are required in all applications where multiaxial deformation of geosynthetic barriers may occur as a result of settlement, design, or accidental deformation.

Weather data (combined effects of wetting cycles, temperature variation and UV light exposure) is required for applications where the GBR-C barrier will be exposed to weather without adequate protective cover. It should be noted that in all normal cases, GBR-C barriers should be covered with soil or other coating on the same working day or prior to any condition that may cause hydration of the clay component.

All performances related to the features in this standard shall be determined when the manufacturer wishes to declare the relevant performances, unless the standard provides provisions for declaring them without testing.
