EN 13830 Curtain Wall - Product Standard

This European Standard specifies the technical specifications of curtain wall kit and includes a systematic framework of requirements, test methods and conformity criteria to ensure that the product meets these specifications.

A curtain wall kit may not be complete in every aspect on a production floor and some kit components may be supplied separately on site. The curtain wall kit can also be pre-assembled on premises as prefabricated units.

This European Standard specifies the requirements for curtain wall kit intended for use as a building envelope to provide weather resistance, safety in use, energy economy and heat retention and provides test/evaluation/calculation methods and conformity criteria for the relevant performances.

The curtain wall kit covered by this standard must ensure its own integrity and mechanical stability but must not contribute to the load bearing or stability of the main building structure and may be replaced independently of this.

This standard is valid for curtain wall kit ranging from vertical to ±15° from vertical. The curtain wall kit should include any curved parts. This standard applies to all curtain wall kits, including fixings. According to this standard, the curtain wall is intended to be used as a part of the building envelope.

This European Standard does not include:

• “Patented glass” (glazed pitched roofs) kits;
• Roof glass constructions;
• Facades made of precast concrete panels as part of the wall.
