EN 527-1 Office Furniture - Desks - Part 1: Standard Test for Dimensions

This European standard specifies the dimensions of desks and desks for office tasks to be performed in a sitting, sitting or standing position. It does not include dimensions for neither storage nor other desks or reception desks in the office space.

Dimensions in this standard are based on requirements of anthropometric measurements, mechanical design, subjective preference, and other factors.

The minimum legroom height is specified to leave a gap, such as a modesty panel, under any part of the back of the work surface so that users can put their feet on the floor without hitting anything else on the desk. For standing desks only, there is an additional requirement for a minimum footroom depth so that users standing in front of the desk can work under the desk without hitting any obstacles.

For sitting applications, the minimum legroom (i.e. the gap between the legs or any part or component of the side desk) is specified as large enough to allow users to rotate their chair instead of bending their backs when lying to the side. The minimum legroom width for standing applications depends on the distance between the outsides of the users' legs when standing with their legs slightly apart.
