IEC 60335-2-69 Household and Similar Electrical Appliances, Part 2-69: Standard Test for Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaners, Including Electric Brush for Commercial Use

IEC 60335-2-69 deals with the safety of electric motor-operated vacuum cleaners, including backpack vacuums and dust extractors for wet suction, dry suction or wet and dry suction, designed for commercial indoor or outdoor use.

These machines may have a blowing or inflating function. The inner diameter of the dust container connector to the suction hose must not exceed 200 mm.

It also deals with the safety of centrally located vacuum cleaners, apart from the installation of the system. Attention is drawn to the fact that additional requirements for the safe installation of centrally located vacuum cleaners are not covered in this standard, but should be taken into account.

The following list, while not exhaustive, is an indication of the locations covered:

• Public areas such as hotels, schools, hospitals;
• Industrial locations, such as factories and workshops;
• Retail outlets, eg department stores and supermarkets;
• workplaces, eg offices and banks;
• All uses other than for normal cleaning purposes.

This standard also applies to machinery that handles hazardous dusts such as asbestos and combustible dusts outside the explosive dust environment.

Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements regarding dangerous substances may apply. Radioactive materials are not covered by the definition of hazardous dust for the purposes of this standard.
