This standard is intended for use by both the vendor and the user. The purpose of the solderability test methods described in this standard is to determine the ability of printed circuit board surface conductors, junction grounds, and plated holes to become easily wetted with solder and withstand the rigors of printed circuit board assembly operations.
This standard describes test methods by which both surface conductors (and bonding grounds) and plated holes can be evaluated for solderability. This standard also includes a test method for resistance to Metallization Dissolution/Wetting to verify that metallized terminations will remain intact throughout assembly brazing operations.
This standard describes the solderability determinations made to verify that the printed circuit board fabrication processes and subsequent storage do not adversely affect the solderability of the parts of the printed circuit board intended to be soldered. Reference coupons or representative portions of a printed board may be used. Solderability is determined by evaluating a test specimen that has been machined as part of a board panel and then removed for testing according to the chosen method.
