ISO 12219-5 Screening Method for Determination of Emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds from Vehicle Interior Parts and Materials - Static Chamber Method Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 12219-5 testing. ISO 12219-5 specifies a room-based, static headspace type method for measuring volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde and other carbonyl compounds that can be emitted from vehicle indoor unit components to cabin air.

The cabinet emission test is intended to provide the characteristic emission of the assembly level emission of the unit component inside the cabinet. It also specifies the emission test chamber, test sample preparation, connection of vapor samplers, and test conditions. This method applies to new vehicle interior components for vehicles, and can also be used for vehicle interior components removed from the vehicle interior trim assembly or used automobiles. A number of multi-unit components can be implemented according to the test purpose.

If confirmatory information of unit component emission between this method and the small room method (ISO 12219-4) is desired, dynamic mode operation of the emission chamber can be applied.

ISO 12219-5 complements existing standards and provides third-party testing laboratories and the manufacturing industry with an approach to:

  • Comparison of emissions from various unit components in the assembly with respect to specific VOC emissions;
  • Evaluate and rank specific unit components related to specific VOC emission data;
  • Providing specific VOC emission data to develop and verify the correlation between the material-based method and the assembly-based method;
  • Evaluation of prototype, "low-emission" unit components during development.
