ISO 15754 specifies a method for determining the tensile strength in the z direction, i.e. the tensile strength in the z direction. This International Standard was developed to specify the conditions for determining the tensile strength of paper and cardboard in the z direction, i.e. the tensile strength in the z direction.
The terminology regarding the through-thickness strength of paper is not well defined. Depending on the measurement procedure, the type of sample being tested, and the purpose of the measurement, terms such as z-directional tensile strength, Scott Bond, internal bond strength, internal fiber bond strength, ply adhesion, and ply bond strength are used.
A test piece, attached to and between two flat metal plates using double-sided adhesive tape and subjected to pressure for a specified period of time, is stretched to break during a specified loading time using a tensile tester that records the maximum tensile force.
The dynamic performance of the tester is a critical parameter in this test, where the peak force will be determined in a very short time. Consideration must be given to sampling rate and force signal filtering, which includes the mechanical design of the device used. It is the duty of the tester manufacturer to provide a tester that can capture the peak force with sufficient accuracy.
