ISO 3741 Acoustics - Determination of Sound Power Levels and Sound Energy Levels of Noise Sources Using Sound Pressure - Precision Methods for Reverberation Test Rooms

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 3741 testing. ISO 3741 specifies methods for determining the sound power level or sound energy level of a noise source from sound pressure levels measured in an echo test chamber.

ISO 3741 Acoustics - Determination of Sound Power Levels and Sound Energy Levels of Noise Sources Using Sound Pressure - Precision Methods for Reverberation Test Rooms

The sound power level produced by the noise source (or, in the case of noise bursts or transient noise emission), is calculated using these measurements in frequency bands one-third octave wide, including corrections to allow. For any difference between the meteorological conditions at the time and place of testing and those corresponding to the reference characteristic impedance. Measurement and calculation procedures are given for both a direct method and a comparison method for determining the sound power level and sound energy level.

Generally, the frequency range of interest includes one-third octave bands with mid-band frequencies from 100 Hz to 10000 Hz. The principles for the application of the specified methods in an extended frequency range with respect to lower frequencies are given in an appendix. ISO 3741 does not apply to frequency ranges above the one-third octave band of 10000 Hz.

The methods specified in ISO 3741 are suitable for all types of noise defined in ISO 12001 (constant, unsteady, wavy, isolated bursts of sound energy, etc.).

The tested noise source can be a device, machine, component or subassembly. ISO 3741 is applicable to noise sources with a volume not greater than 2% of the volume of the reverberation test chamber. For a weld with a volume greater than 2% of the test chamber volume, it may not be possible to obtain the results defined in ISO 12001, accuracy grade 1 (precision grade).

The test chambers applicable for measurements made according to ISO 3741 are reverberation test chambers that meet the specified requirements.

For the measurements made in limited frequency bands and the A-weighted frequency calculations from them, information is given about the sound power levels determined according to ISO 3741 and the uncertainty of the sound energy levels. Uncertainty conforms to ISO 12001, degree of accuracy 1 (degree of precision).
