ISO 3768 Corrosion – Neutral Salt Spray Test of Metallic Coatings

This standard specifies the coating or product characteristics of coatings made in accordance with the neutral salt spray test requirements for the assessment of the quality of the apparatus, reagent and procedure to be used in its execution.

It can be used to test the relative resistance of metallic coatings to corrosion when exposed to a high temperature salt spray climate.

Test specimens are placed in a closed chamber and continuously exposed indirectly to a neutral (pH 6,5 to 7,2) saline solution; this solution drops onto the samples at a rate of 1,0 to 2,0 ml/80cm²/hr. +35C room temperature. This climate is maintained under steady steady state conditions. Test duration is variable.
