ISO 9404-1 Enclosures for Ionizing Radiation Protection - Part 1: Test of 150mm and 200mm Thickness Chevron Units

This standard specifies the characteristics of various lead units used in the construction of basic units (bricks, struts) and functional units (span bricks, windows, sphere units, plugs and reduction units).

The units covered are:

• Basic units: bricks, pillars;
• Functional units: clearance bricks, windows, sphere units, plugs and reduction units.

In this part of ISO 9404 only bricks for 150 mm thick Walls are standardized. As four- and five-lane bricks are not produced, 200 mm and 250 mm thick Walls are built with 50 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm thick bricks.

150 mm and 200 mm shielding units are discussed separately in two sections for clarity. The 50 mm and 100 mm guard units are standardized in ISO 7212.

It is recommended to use the same mounting direction for the entire guard wall, but if it is necessary to use the opposite direction, special bricks are used for joining.

A 150 mm thick wall can be constructed with three-lane flat units or alternatively using a combination of single-lane and two-lane flat units. For stability reasons, it is recommended to use three-lane foundation bricks only at the base of a 150mm thick Wall.
