UN 3373 Standard Test for Packaging and Transport Requirements for Patient Specimens

The road transport requirements of UN 3373 are set out in Packing Instruction 650 of ADR (European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road).

If you transport UN 3373 Biological Substance, Category B in accordance with these packing instructions, no other requirements of ADR apply to your shipment.

The packaging shall be of good quality, strong enough to withstand the shocks and loadings normally encountered during transport, including transfer between cargo transport units and between cargo transport units and warehouses, as well as any removal from a pallet or overpack for the next manual.

Packages should be constructed and sealed in such a way as to prevent any loss of contents which may be caused by vibration or changes in temperature, humidity or pressure under normal conditions of transport.

Primary containers shall be packed in secondary packagings in such a way that they will not break, puncture or leak their contents into the secondary packaging under normal conditions of transport. Secondary packagings shall be secured in outer packagings with suitable cushioning material. Any leakage of contents will not compromise the integrity of the sealant or the outer packaging.
