This standard describes the testing and evaluation procedures for filter media used in dry-run cleanable filters. This standard is limited to textile filter media. Other filter media will be discussed later in this manual.
The apparatus proposed in its standard version provides the opportunity to automatically run a sufficient number of filtration and cleaning cycles in uninterrupted tests under well-defined and repeatable operating conditions. The basic setup was originally developed to be able to characterize and evaluate cleanable filter media according to its long-term filtration behavior, thereby collecting data other than the textile properties given by filter media manufacturers today.
Thanks to the apparatus design, all important operational parameters such as filter surface velocity, raw gas concentration, test powder properties and cleaning conditions are both clear and easy to change. This allows for comparison and evaluation of different filter media under specific conditions very similar to those encountered in a pulse cleaning filter, as well as investigating the effect of changes in operation. As a basis for comparison and evaluation of different filter samples, the evolution of characteristic data is recorded over a series of cycles, such as: residual pressure drop, residual dust mass in and on the filter, duration of filtration cycles and clean gas.
