EN 1187 Test Methods for External Fire Exposure on Roofs

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1187 testing. This European Standard specifies three methods for determining the external fire exposure performance of roofs.

EN 1187 Test Methods for External Fire Exposure on Roofs

Three methods evaluate the performance of roofs under the following conditions:

  • Test 1 - With burning brands
  • Test 2 - Burning brands and wind
  • Test 3 - With burning marks, wind and additional radiant heat.

The tests assess fire spreading along the outer surface of the roof, fire spreading within the roof, fire penetration (tests 1 and 3), and the production of flame droplets or debris falling from under the roof or from the exposed surface.

Tests 2 and 3 are not applicable to geometrically irregular roofs or roof-mounted devices such as vents and roof lights.

The three tests listed above do not imply any sort order. Each test stands on its own with no possibility to replace or replace one with the other.
