ANSI A 118.3 Standard Test for Chemical Resistance, Water Cleanable Tile Hardening and Grouting

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ANSI A 118.3 standard. This standard describes test methods and physical properties for chemical resistant epoxy adhesives. These include bond strength, water cleanability, sag, shrinkage, thermal shock, etc. are tests.

ANSI specifications divide mortars into five categories: A118.6 cement mortars, A118.7 polymer modified cement mortars, A118.3 epoxy mortars, A118.5 furan mortars, and A118.8 modified epoxy emulsion mortars. The ANSI standard creates unique tests for each product type.

Water and moisture absorption is a problem for most cement mortars as staining can occur. Spills of wine or soft drinks sitting on a cement mortar will penetrate this installation work and can ruin a tile countertop.

Epoxy resin grouts that meet ANSI A118.3 specifications differ from cementitious grouts under different ANSI standards. Epoxy grouts, by their nature, outperform cement-based grouts. If a spill occurs on an epoxy resin-based grout, there is virtually no absorption. Epoxy Resin grouts are also much stronger.
