EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 13935-2 testing. EN ISO 13935-2 specifies methods for determining the maximum seam strength of sewn seams when force is applied perpendicular to the seam. EN ISO 13935-2 describes the method known as grip testing.

EN ISO 13935-2 Textiles - Sewing Tensile Properties of Fabrics and Ready-made Textiles - Part 2: Determination of Maximum Force Against Seam Breaking Using the Grip Method

The method is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics, including fabrics that exhibit stretch properties provided by the presence of an elastomeric fiber, mechanical or chemical treatment. It can be applied to fabrics produced by other techniques. It does not normally apply to geotextiles, non-woven fabrics, coated fabrics, textile-glass woven fabrics and fabrics made from carbon fibers or polyolefin tape yarns.

Sewn fabrics can be obtained from previously sewn articles or can be prepared from fabric samples as agreed by the parties interested in the results.

For the purposes of the EN ISO 13935-2 standard, the grip test refers to the pull in which only the middle portion of the test specimen is held in the jaws of the test machine. The constant elongation rate testing machine is a tensile testing machine equipped with a fixed gripper and another gripper moving at a constant speed throughout the test. The entire test system is almost completely drift free. The gauge length is the distance between two active docking points of a tester.

This method can only be applied to straight seams, not curved seams. The method is limited to the use of constant elongation rate (CRE) testing machines.
