EN ISO 7027 Water Quality, Standard Test for Determination of Turbidity

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 7027 standard. EN ISO 7027 specifies two quantitative methods for determining the turbidity of water using optical turbidimeters or nephelometers:

EN ISO 7027 Water Quality, Standard Test for Determination of Turbidity

  • Nephelometry, a diffuse radiation measurement procedure applicable to water with low turbidity (eg drinking water);
  • Turbidimetry, procedure for measuring the attenuation of a luminous flux more suited to highly turbid waters (eg wastewater or other turbid waters).

The turbidities measured according to the first method are presented as nephelometric turbidity units (NTU). Results typically range from <0,05 NTU to 400 NTU. Depending on the device design, it can also be applied to waters with higher turbidity. NTU and formazine nephelometric unit (FNU) units have numerical equivalence.

The turbidity measured by the second method is expressed in units of formazine attenuation (FAU), results typically range from 40 FAU to 4.000 FAU.
