EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1365-1 standard. This European standard specifies a method for testing the fire resistance of load-bearing walls. It can be applied to both interior and exterior walls. The fire resistance of external walls can be determined under conditions of internal or external exposure.
The purpose of this test is to measure the ability of a representative sample of a load-bearing wall to resist the spread of fire from one side to the other and maintain its load-bearing capacity. It can be applied to interior and exterior walls.
The fire resistance performance of load bearing walls is normally evaluated without holes such as doors, windows or fire resistant ducts.
If it can be proven that the design of the opening is such that no load is transmitted to the hole, then the hole need not be tested in the loaded condition. If perforations are to be included, their impact will need to be determined separately.
This test method is not applicable to non-splitting load-bearing walls that can be tested as columns in accordance with EN 1365-4 at short widths.
The load can be applied to the test specimen by means of loading jacks located at the top or bottom of the frame. Where loading is applied by a rigid beam, it must be of sufficient rigidity to provide a uniform vertical deflection across the test specimen. Where the load is applied individually to the struts in the wall, the loading system must allow the constant load to be maintained at each loading point.
