ISO 9272 provides guidelines for determining the accuracy of test method standards used in the rubber manufacturing and carbon black industries through interlaboratory testing programs (ITPs).
It uses the basic one-way analysis of ISO 5725's variance calculation algorithms and as many of ISO 5725's terms and definitions as possible that do not conflict with historical history and procedures for precision determination in these two sectors. Although bias is not determined in this White Paper, it is an important concept in understanding precision determination.
Two methods of determining precision are given, described as 'robust' statistical procedures that attempt to eliminate or significantly reduce the influence of outliers. The first is a 'level 1 sensitivity' procedure for all testing methods in the rubber manufacturing industry and the second is a specific variation of the general sensitivity procedure called 'level 2 sensitivity' that applies to carbon black testing.
These both use the same uniform level experimental design and Mandel h and k statistics to review the precision database for potential outliers. However, they use minor modifications to the procedure to reject incompatible data values as outliers. The 'Level 2 precision' procedure is specific with respect to the number of replicates per database cell or material-laboratory combination.
