EN 14372 Child Use and Care Supplies - Cutlery and Feeders - Safety Requirements

This includes products that have a different primary function, but a secondary function of getting a child to eat the product on their own or with the help of another person. It does not apply to pre-prepared food containers or cutlery and feeding utensils designed for special medical applications or for use under medical supervision.

It contains test methods for specified mechanical and chemical requirements and requirements for instructions for use. There are products that are designed as toys or have features that resemble toys. These products must also meet the relevant requirements of EN 71.

This standard does not apply to drinking equipment (bottle, teat, pacifier and glass) within the scope of EN 14350-1 and EN 14350-2.

This Standard sets minimum safety requirements and specifies appropriate testing methods for children's cutlery and feeding utensils. Children's cutlery and food containers are used either by the caregiver to feed the child or by the child himself/herself from the average weaning age (6 months) to 3 years old.

Children from the age of three are increasingly using cutlery and kitchen utensils designed for adults. Accordingly, this document addresses the potential hazards arising from the use of cutlery and feeding utensils designed for use by children up to 3 years of age, with or without parental supervision.

However, it is emphasized that this standard cannot eliminate all possible risks associated with the use of such products by young children up to 3 years of age and that parental or guardian control is very important. In order to ensure the correct and safe use of the product by the consumer, it is essential that the manufacturer clearly gives all warnings and instructions specified in this standard.

A significant suffocation hazard can occur if the components of the cutlery or supply containers are separated during use. This hazard is addressed in this document with the inclusion of safety tests.

This standard also addresses the potential hazards arising from the release of one or more substances from materials used in the manufacture of cutlery and feeding utensils in quantities that could be considered hazardous to health.
