Tests under Regulation (EU) 2016/426

Regulation (EU) 2016/426 published by the European Parliament and the Council repeals the 2009/142/EC directive and regulates the principles regarding gaseous fuel-burning devices. This regulation applies to devices and equipment.

Tests under Regulation (EU) 2016/426

For the purposes of this regulation, a device is normally considered used when the following conditions are met:

  • Correct installation and regular maintenance according to the manufacturer's instructions
  • Use with a normal variation in gas quality and a normal fluctuation in supply pressure as specified by member states
  • use for their intended purpose or in a manner that could reasonably be foreseen

Regulation (EU) 2016/426 does not apply to specially designed devices:

  • Devices designed for use in industrial processes carried out in industrial facilities
  • Devices designed for use on airplanes and railways
  • Research instruments for temporary use in laboratories

If the design is made only to meet a specific need for a specific operation or use, this device is considered a specially designed device.

If there is a device or equipment specifically covered under the European Union harmonization regulations, regulation (EU) 2016/426 does not apply to such device or equipment.

This regulation does not affect the obligation to promote the use of energy from renewable sources and to take measures regarding the energy efficiency of buildings in accordance with the directives 2009/28/EC, 2010/31/EU and 2012/27/EU.

For the purposes of this regulation, the term appliances means appliances that burn gaseous fuels used for cooking, cooling, air conditioning, heating, hot water production, lighting or washing, as well as forced draft burners and heating bodies to be equipped with such burners. Connections refer to safety devices, control devices or regulation devices and their subgroups designed to be mounted to form a device.

The devices are placed on the market and put into service only if they comply with this regulation in normal use.

Devices and equipment must meet the basic requirements in Annex I that apply to them.
