This European Standard specifies requirements for the construction and performance of water motor alarms to be used with alarm valves used in automatic sprinkler systems.
This standard will be made available to qualified and experienced organizations capable of designing and manufacturing systems in accordance with recognized international standards.
The water motor alarm will have a filter that will be integral to the housing or installed just above the water motor alarm inlet connection. The strainer shall be made of bronze, brass, monel metal or austenitic stainless steel. The strainer must be accessible for cleaning.
The strainer mesh shall have openings whose maximum dimension is not more than two-thirds of the nozzle orifice diameter. The total area of the openings in the strainer mesh shall not be less than 10 times the cross-section of the nozzle orifice.
The initial type test will be carried out at the first application of this standard. Previous tests performed in accordance with the provisions of this standard (product, characteristics, test method, sampling method and conformity verification system, etc.) may be taken into account. In addition, initial type tests shall be carried out at the beginning of production of a product type or at the beginning of a new production method (in cases that may affect the specified properties).
