Using the separator and knife, separate one end of each test piece halfway between the upper and lower surfaces for a distance of approximately 15 mm.
For multi-layer outsoles, separate the layers of the sole by 10 mm by inserting a heated blade into the adhesive layer. Fold back the two tongues at one end of the test piece and clamp one on each jaw of the machine.
