This European Standard is one of a number of standards that specifies test methods for the characterization or classification of industrially produced mattresses. Test samples of the plate are subjected to a water cap and the volume of penetrating water is measured. A conditioned test sample is placed as a water-bearing layer in a flanged device with a defined foundation surface. Water that has occasionally penetrated the test sample will be collected in a basin placed under the test apparatus and will be measured volumetrically at the end of the test.

Three test specimens of at least 350 mm × 200 mm in size should be cut from the test specimen. The test specimens should be cut evenly distributed over the entire width of the sheet. The prepared test sample should be kept at (23 ± 2)°C for 24 hours before testing.
