EN 13495 Thermal Insulation Products for Building Applications - Test for Determination of Tensile Strength of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS)

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 14855-1 standard. This standard specifies equipment and procedures for determining the load carrying capacity (tensile) of kits from external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) against tensile or shear forces.

EN 13495 Thermal Insulation Products for Building Applications - Test for Determination of Tensile Strength of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS)

The load bearing capacity (tensile) of a kit is determined by subjecting a test specimen to a lateral force applied evenly to its face through an elastic foam block and applied to the base coat through reinforcement.

Five combinations of tensile and lateral shear loads can be tested using the following methods:

  • Method A evaluates the load carrying capacity only with an increasing tensile load. Lateral shear load is not applied;
  • Method B evaluates the load-bearing capacity with an increased tensile load and a constant lateral shear load in the reinforcement plane;
  • Method C evaluates the load-bearing capacity with an increasing tensile load and a constant lateral shear displacement in the reinforcement plane;
  • The D method evaluates the load bearing capacity with an increased lateral shear load and a constant tensile load in the reinforcement plane;
  • The E method evaluates the load bearing capacity with an increasing lateral shear load in the reinforcement plane. Tension load is not applied.

The length and width of the substrate must be equal to or greater than the length and width of the test specimen. The substrate will be large enough to support the kit in case of lateral shear displacement.

In the case of mechanically fixed test specimens only, where no adhesive is used between the thermal insulation product and the substrate, a layer of polyethylene or polypropylene foil can be placed over the substrate to minimize the possibility of friction between the substrate and the thermal insulation.
