This standard is expected to be read in conjunction with EN 12101-8, EN 13501-4, EN 1366-2 and EN 1363-1, the latter giving more details for fire resistance testing.
Considering smoke and heat exhaust ventilation, it becomes clear that a clear path must be made between the area where the heat and smoke is produced (fire) and the exterior of the building.
To create this path, there must be channels and the smoke extraction path must remain uninterrupted. This means that smoke control dampers must be open and remain open in the fire and along the road. Along the way, smoke control dampers in the branches or on the duct surface must be closed and remain closed. In fact, if the duct crosses a compartment boundary, it becomes part of the fire compartment where the fire started.
