This standard is intended to apply to water mist automatic nozzle systems and water mist sprinkler systems supplied by stand-alone or pumped systems.
The standard only covers applications and uses covered by the fire test protocols of the EN 14972 series. Water mist aspects related to explosion protection or use in vehicles are not covered by this standard.
This standard does not cover all legal requirements. Certain national regulations apply in certain countries and take precedence over this document. Fires involving flammable liquids can be extinguished using water fog. Fires involving ordinary combustible materials can be controlled and suppressed using water mist and also extinguished. Water mist can also prevent glare.
Currently, most applications for water mist relate to property and asset protection. However, under certain conditions, water mist can improve conditions in the protected area, thereby increasing the chances of survival of personnel in the protected areas. It can also improve personnel protection in more general applications by protecting facilities and therefore increasing the safety of individuals.
