EN 382-2 Fiberboards - Determination of Surface Absorption - Test Method for Chipboards

EN 382-2 is a European standard that specifies a test method for determining the surface absorption of chipboard. This test is important for evaluating the ability of particle board to absorb liquids or coatings applied to their surfaces, which can affect their suitability for use in a variety of applications such as the construction, furniture or automotive industries.

The test involves placing a drop of water or other liquid on the surface of the chipboard sample and measuring the time it takes for the liquid to be absorbed by the wood. The rate of absorption is affected by a variety of factors, such as the density of the board and the surface quality, and can be affected by the addition of surface coatings or treatments.

The standard specifies that test specimens should be rectangular in size and 250mm x 250mm x 3mm. Samples should be conditioned in a climate controlled environment for at least 24 hours prior to testing to ensure they are at a constant moisture content.

The test is typically performed by placing a drop of test liquid, such as water, on the surface of the sample and measuring the time it takes for the liquid to be absorbed by the board. The time is recorded in seconds and the test is repeated at least three times in different areas of the sample to obtain a representative result.

The test method is useful for evaluating the ability of particle board to absorb liquids or coatings applied to their surfaces and can be used to compare the performance of different types of boards or surface treatments. The results can be used to determine whether particle boards are suitable for use in applications where surface absorption is a key factor, such as flooring or furniture manufacturing.
