This European standard specifies a method for determining the performance level of organic coatings applied as a protective system to zinc-coated steel plate classified as type 845 in EN 1-845 and EN 2-2 and used in the manufacture of auxiliary components for masonry.
The performance of organic coatings is determined from impact resistance, abrasion resistance and accelerated corrosion test tests. Impact and abrasion resistance is determined using a heavy, rigid pendulum apparatus where the spring-loaded end of the pendulum strikes the test specimen at a certain distance from bottom dead center. Accelerated corrosion performance is determined from the electrical resistance of the organic coating over the period of exposure to an alkaline solution.
Not less than five samples have an impact resistance category of 1 or less, the sixth sample has an impact resistance category greater than 1 but less than or equal to 2, case tests on the other two samples have an impact resistance category of 1 or less.
If at any time during the test the resistance of all test panels does not drop below 350 k, the protective coating type will be accepted.
If the resistance of any panel falls below 350k, the type or thickness of the protective coating will be rejected.
