EN ISO 12947-2 Textile - Determination of Abrasion Resistance of Fabrics by Martindale Method - Part 2: Test for Determination of Sample Casting

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 12947-2 testing. This standard specifies the procedure for determining the sample casting (end point of the test) by inspection at fixed intervals and is applicable to all textile fabrics, including non-woven fabrics, except for fabrics where the determinant has shown the final performance as having a low abrasion wear life.

This standard does not apply to coated fabrics (including laminated fabrics). If the wear behavior of the coated surface of a coated fabric is to be determined, use the methods described in the various sections of ISO 5470.

A circular sample mounted in a sample holder and subjected to a defined load is rubbed against an abrasive medium (standard cloth) in a translational motion following a Lissajous shape; The sample holder can additionally rotate freely around its axis perpendicular to the plane. e.g. Evaluation of the abrasion resistance of the textile fabric is determined from the inspection range to the disintegration of the samples.

An enlargement device (in most cases, a magnification factor of 8 or 10 has been found suitable) should be used to recognize completely broken threads, including loop-forming threads. During sampling and sample preparation, ensure that the embroidery applies the lowest possible tensile stress to avoid improper elongation of the textile fabric.

The diameter of the test specimens must be at least 38 mm. It is important that the sample can be placed in the sample holder nut without wrinkling. The preparation of test specimens with excessive diameter should be avoided.
