This standard applies to measurements of shielding attenuation of shielded enclosures in the frequency range 9 kHz to 40 GHz. The purpose of this standard is to establish a common measurement procedure to verify the shielding effectiveness of a shielded enclosure.
Shield weakening can only be calculated in ideal situations. The most important factor is that the shielded enclosure is homogeneous and consists of materials whose properties are defined in every respect. In practice, the deviations from these conditions can be so large that the calculation results in only approximate values.
The measurement is normally performed with all shielding components in place and in the case of filters all wires and cables connected. Based on the frequency range given in the enclosure specification, the following types of equipment will be used to perform the screen attenuation test.
Measurements shall be taken at various points around the enclosure as specified in the enclosure specification. In general, these measurements are made before absorber assembly. If the ambient noise level is low enough, all tests should be performed with the receiver outside and the transmitter in the enclosure.
Before acceptance tests, leak tests should be performed all around the door frame, at accessible joints, around filters, and around all air ducts. In addition, the antennas should be moved to at least four positions, preferably on different walls, to find the magnitude and location of the maximum signal level emitted from the enclosure.
