ISO 48-1 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Standard Test for Determination of Hardness

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 48-1 standard. This standard provides guidance on determining the hardness of vulcanized and thermoplastic rubbers.

ISO 48-1 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Standard Test for Determination of Hardness

It is aimed to provide an understanding of the importance of hardness as a material property and to assist in the selection of an appropriate test method.

In principle, stiffness can be related to the modulus of rubber, and experimental formulas can be found in textbooks. A relationship for ball indentation is given in ISO 48-2 with graphs of log (module) vs. hardness. This relationship is valid only for a perfectly elastic rubber and can only be considered approximate in practice.

Because of the weak relationship with Young or shear modulus, hardness cannot be considered an essential material property. However, due to the simplicity and cheapness of hardness testing combined with its essentially non-destructive nature, hardness is universally used as a convenient measure of hardness.

EUROLAB assists manufacturers with ISO 48-1 test compliance. Our test experts, with their professional working mission and principles, provide you, our manufacturers and suppliers, the best service and controlled testing process in our laboratories. Thanks to these services, businesses receive more effective, high-performance and quality testing services and provide safe, fast and uninterrupted service to their customers.
