These threads are tapered external, parallel internal or tapered internal and are designed to be used for valves, fittings or other pipeline equipment interconnected by threaded pipes and threaded connections.
The length of useful thread allowed in practice is the sum of the lengths of the completed and incomplete threads, excluding the washing thread. The minimum length of the useful thread must not be less than the minimum gauge length plus the joint allowance.
The length of the useful thread provided to accommodate the relative movement between the end of the externally threaded part and the internally threaded part is required for switching beyond the hand-threaded position.
