UL 555S UL Standard for Safety Smoke Dampers

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of the UL 555S standard. These requirements cover smoke dampers intended for use in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Purpose of smoke dampers:

• Restricting the spread of smoke in HVAC systems designed to shut down automatically in the event of fire;
• To assist in the control of pressure differences between smoke barriers when the HVAC system is in operation. part of an engineered smoke control system.

The dampers covered by these requirements are considered for use as one of the following:

• Smoke Dampers – For use in HVAC systems where ducts pass through smoke barriers;
• Combined Fire and Smoke Dampers – For locations in HVAC systems where one fire damper and one smoke damper are required in one location;
• Aisle Dampers – In HVAC Systems, interior aisles where air ducts enter or terminate in openings in ceilings when permitted by the competent authority.

The smoke dampers covered by these requirements are designed for installation in accordance with the national fire protection association air conditioning and ventilation systems installation standard, NFPA 90A, international mechanical code and uniform mechanical code.

Combined fire and smoke dampers and corridor dampers shall also comply with the relevant requirements in Fire Dampers Standard UL 555.
