Applicable to thermal insulation products. It is intended to simulate the water absorption of products that are exposed to high relative humidity of up to approximately 100% on both sides and are exposed to a water vapor pressure gradient over an extended period of time, such as inverted roof or unprotected floor insulation.
The test does not apply to all types of thermal insulation products. The relevant product standard should specify, if any, for which products this test is applicable.
Long-term water absorption by diffusion is determined by measuring the increase in mass of a test sample exposed to a water vapor pressure difference and temperature gradient over a 28-day period.
The test specimens should be square-cut squares with sides (500 ± 1) mm. If the product is not large enough to allow a test specimen of this size, the test specimen size should be reduced accordingly. Test specimens should not contain splice.
The test specimens shall be cut so that they do not include the original product edges. Test specimens shall be prepared by methods that do not significantly alter the original structure of the product. Any coating, coating or coating will be protected.
