EN ISO 9806 applies to types of fluid-heated solar collectors, air-heated solar collectors, hybrid solar collectors producing common heat and electrical power, as well as solar collectors using external power sources for normal operation or safety purposes. It does not cover electrical safety issues or other specific aspects directly related to electrical power generation.
EN ISO 9806 does not apply to devices where a thermal storage unit is such an integral part of the collection process that it cannot be separated from the storage process to make collector thermal performance measurements.
This standard defines procedures for testing liquid heated solar collectors for thermal performance, reliability, durability and safety under well-defined and repeatable conditions. It includes performance testing methods for performing tests outdoors under natural solar irradiation and natural and simulated wind, and for testing indoors under simulated solar irradiation and wind. Outdoor tests can be performed in varying weather conditions, as steady-state or all-day measurements.
Collectors tested according to this standard represent a wide range of applications, e.g. glazed flat plate collectors and vacuum tube collectors for domestic water and space heating, collectors for heating swimming pools or other low temperature systems, or monitoring condenser collectors for thermal power generation and process heat applications. This standard applies to collectors that use liquids as well as air as the heat transfer fluid.
