EN 1074-3 Valves for Water Supply - Fit for Purpose Requirements and Appropriate Verification Tests - Part 3: Check Valves

This European standard defines minimum fitness for purpose requirements for check valves to be used or connected to water supply piping systems, above or below ground, carrying water for human consumption.

This standard specifies the requirements, performance requirements and conformity assessment method for check valves, whatever their design, type and materials. This standard applies primarily to any product or test standard: requirements in other standards only apply when this standard refers to them.

The test shall be carried out with water at ambient temperature on a check valve in delivery condition. The test setup, in turn, must be able to generate a water flow condition through the valve with a minimum velocity of 1 m/s and a no flow condition with a downstream pressure equal to the PMA.

Check valves may be equipped with a device to assist in balancing or closing the weight of the obturator; however, such valves are not considered to have a mechanically actuated occluder.
